Review:
‘Housefull 5’ continues the legacy of the Housefull franchise — loud, larger-than-life, and unapologetically silly. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, this fifth installment brings back the madness of mistaken identities, slapstick gags, and chaotic family drama, but this time with even more characters and confusion.
The film picks up with the return of our old favourites — Akshay Kumar as the charmingly dumb “Rocky”, Riteish Deshmukh as the ever-nervous “Bala”, and Abhishek Bachchan as the sarcastic “Bunty”. They are now married to rich heiresses, played by Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde, and Jacqueline Fernandez respectively. However, peace doesn't last long as a haunted palace, a curse from the past, and a reincarnation twist turn their lives upside down.
Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal add to the chaos with their mysterious and comical roles from a past era. The story jumps between timelines — one in the present, and another in the 1800s — where the same characters lived different lives. The confusion, typical of the franchise, leads to hilarious sequences involving wrong marriages, hidden secrets, and lots of running around.
Performance-wise, Akshay Kumar once again proves he is the king of comic timing. His effortless portrayal of the confused husband brings many laugh-out-loud moments. Riteish Deshmukh delivers his usual charm and expressive face gags that never feel forced. Abhishek Bachchan, though slightly underutilized, provides solid support. Among the female leads, Kriti Sanon stands out with good comic timing, while Jacqueline and Pooja do justice to their limited roles.
The music, composed by a team of multiple hitmakers, is peppy but mostly forgettable. The dance numbers, however, are colorful and choreographed to perfection, especially the retro-themed wedding song that’s already a hit on social media.
The cinematography is vibrant, filled with exotic locations, grand sets, and flashy costumes. The visual effects in the reincarnation scenes are decent, but nothing groundbreaking.
What works for Housefull 5 is its commitment to being a full-blown entertainer. It never takes itself seriously, and that’s exactly what its fans love. The dialogues are punchy, the comic sequences are well-timed, and the ensemble cast delivers the laughs.
What doesn’t work is the predictability of the plot. The confusion and mix-up comedy have been stretched across five films now, and while it's still entertaining, the formula is starting to feel repetitive. Also, the female characters again have little depth, mainly serving as props to the male-driven comedy.
Verdict:
Housefull 5 is a pure masala entertainer meant for audiences who want to laugh, dance, and forget logic for a few hours. It may not offer anything new, but if you’re a fan of the franchise, this rollercoaster of confusion and comedy won’t disappoint.
Final Rating: 3/5
Watch it for the laughs, not for the logic!
